Located in the Hampstead area of the London Borough of Camden, the Royal Free Hospital is a renowned teaching hospital. As part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, the hospital provides a range of healthcare services.
Our company successfully secured the tender to construct new Pathology Laboratories and Offices at the hospital, which was executed in five phases over a one-year period.

Scope of Work
The project encompassed a comprehensive transformation of the designated area. The key elements of our work included:
Enabling Works
- Clearing out existing offices and laboratories.
- Demolition of walls.
- Levelling of floors.
Refurbishment and Fit-out
- Installation of HVAC systems.
- Electrical setup.
- Associated plumbing works, including the installation of lab sinks and hand wash basins, water plant room with Demin water supplies.
- Installation of lightweight partitioning.
- Suspended ceilings.
- Flooring.
- Fitting laboratory benches, sinks, and wash basins.
- Decoration as per client’s design requirements.
Challenges and Solutions
Given that the hospital was still functioning in adjacent areas as well as above and below the designated project area, close co-operation with the hospital trust was vital to minimising disruption. The following measures were implemented:

Implementation of noise control measures, including scheduling noisy tasks during quieter periods and utilisation of quieter construction methods. - Minimal Disruption
Adherence to strict noise level guidelines to ensure the hospital’s smooth operation. - Efficient Project Planning
Careful phasing of the project over one year to minimise disruptions while maintaining progress.
Project Outcome
Through effective project management and close coordination with the hospital trust, the new Pathology Laboratories and Offices at the Royal Free Hospital were successfully constructed. The project, valued at £250,000, was completed within the agreed program and budget.
The refurbished and fully equipped laboratories and offices now serve as essential facilities within the hospital, supporting its commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services.
